Over the past year I have lost 3 stone and discovered many things that help with weight loss.
I have achieved this this slowly and healthily and there are a number of standout things that have helped me. I know weight loss is an individual journey for everyone but I also thought it might be useful if I shared some of my most effective tips with you here to see if they are useful to you or inspire you in some way. Obviously just pick and choose from the list in regard to which you wish you to try and do always, check with your health provider if you are gong on any kind of diet.
7 Things That Help With Weight Loss
Find some great diet buddies
One of my friends walked a marathon in a day with me and we encouraged each other as we did our training walks and hit a weight goal to make the walk easier. Another friend of mine was also dieting and she would share her top tips, progress and some great recipes with me. We would cheer each other on and this helped me enormously.
Set mini goals
3 stone was a huge weight loss goal (and I haven’t yet hit my healthy bmi.) In order not to feel daunted I set some mini goals and so every 7 lb of weight loss I would celebrate with a movie or a pamper night or a little bunch of flowers as a huge well done me and recognition of the milestone. This motivated me.
Eat well
Eating more healthily did not mean boring, limited food. I made sure I had the nicest fruit and veg I could afford and ensured I had protein at each meal. This balance of good, nutritious food meant I did not go hungry and still indulged in one of my most favourite pastimes – eating!
Use social media wisely
I found it inspirational to watch before and after weight loss inspirational stories on TikTok and Instagram This spurred me on no end!
Cook!
Avoiding calories laden takeaways, snacking and junk food meant I needed to cook more and this also helped me control calorie intake. Great recipes were the answer.
Use science
I love this weight loss calculator because not only does it work out the amount of calories I need in order to lose weigh steadily it also works out how much protein, fat and carbs I need in order to have a balanced diet. Science is really useful if you want to lose weight healthily.
Move!
Movement speeds up weight loss, firms up your body and boosts your mood. There are so many reasons why it should be a key part of daily life and any weight loss journey. I like to walk for miles and miles but there really is a sport / dance / workout / exercise for everyone that they will enjoy. Sometimes it just take a little experimenting to find what makes you smile as you move your body. Obviously, as well as my 7 tips above, normal healthy living tips like keep hydrated, sleep well and get support for your mental and physical health is you are struggling, is a given. Getting healthy is not a quick fix it’s a life style change but I feel above all else it is deep expression of self-care and self-love.
